Troubled Genius’ Diego Maradona has passed away at age 60

Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona and his ‘hand of god’ has died of a heart attack. Maradona was a genius on the football field but for all of his dazzling heights, he also succumbed to the darkest depths.

 

The news of Maradona’s heart attack comes just weeks after undergoing brain surgery.

 

Maradona’s footballing career was centred around his success and failures at the FIFA World Cup. Becoming an international superstar after he leads Argentina to the 1986 World Cup win.

 

While many players and supporters will remember his short, powerful, and ferocious nature, the World Cup win in 86will also be a tender spot for England fans. Maradona costing England their tournament in the quarter-final using his hand to flick the ball past England goalkeeper Peter Shilton.

 

At that moment it was etched into the fabric of football history, a moment no one will forget and thus coined the term ‘handof god’.

 

Maradona’s off-field addiction and vices arguably contributed to his passing, but his on-field prowess will always be spoken about and remembered.
