Lionel Messi, the 33-year-old football star has revealed details surrounding his attempt to leave the Catalan club of Barcelona after 20 years with the club.
In late August, Messi revealed that he intended to leave his long time club on a free transfer which he believed he was within his rights to do. However, the Barca president claimed that the time for Messi’s opportunity to leave had expired on 10th June, leaving Messi in a conundrum.
Messi had the option of taking his beloved Barca to court in order to force the club’s president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, to stick to his word and release him from his contract in the period of 2019 -2020 as he was promised. Using the June cut off as the reason for not allowing the player to leave was not what Messi had been lead to believe, claiming that he had always been told he was free to leave at the end of the season.
Messi will remain at Camp Nou for another 10 months under new coach Ronald Koeman, where they will try to recover from their disastrous season
