Kendo Castaneda vs Jose Zepeda Prizefight, Tuesday 7th July

July 6, 2020

The several time world title fighter, Jose Zepeda, is looking to defend his crown by taking on Kendo Castaneda in a last-minute challenge next Tuesday, 7th July at 8 pm EST in the Bubble at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

With only one week’s notice, Castaneda was called in as a late replacement to fight Zepeda, who is a top contender weighing in at 140 pounds. The original challenger, Ivan Baranchyk, suffered a rib injury and was forced to pull out leaving an opening for Casteneda.

As of July 2nd, the odds were:

Kendo Castaneda +300 / Jose Zepeda - 400

The junior welterweight fight is billed as the main event on the ESPN Summer Series, expecting to run ten rounds.

Zepeda is in fine form, having defeated former champion of the world, Jose Pedraza in an unanimous decider back in September 2019. If Zepeda wins the fight, his handlers will want to run the match against Baranchyk in the near future.

Although Castaneda has not yet achieved a world-class level, he did take out the NABA junior welterweight belt but failed in his quest to win the NABO junior welterweight crown.
