It’s official, Philip Rivers has called time on his 17-year career as an NFL quarterback.
As one of the league’s nicest guys and arguably the greatest trash talker of all time, Rivers can look back knowing he’s captured the hearts of many after 16 seasons with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers, the past year with the Indianapolis Colts.
Rivers joins a list of greats that never made it to the Super Bowl - players like Dolphins QB Dan Marino. What Rivers can boast about is forever being true to himself, and being one of the greatest ever providers of classic NFL mic’d up moments.
The announcement was made on 20 January, which is a special day for Rivers as it is the Roman Catholic Church’s feast day for St. Sebastian. It was also 13 years to the day since Rivers played in the AFC Championship Game with a torn ACL.
What’s next for Rivers is unknown, he will likely spend a well-deserved break with his wife Tiffany and their nine children Halle, Caroline, Grace, Gunner, Sarah, Peter, Rebecca, Clare, and Anna.
