Yesterday, the Portuguese football federation announced that the world’s number one Soccer player tested positive for Coronavirus and will forego playing in the Nation’s League match against Sweden on Wednesday.
The 35-year old has no known symptoms of the virus, however, he may also have to opt-out of the Juventus Champions League match with the Barcelona team at the end of the month. The game was set to unite the famous rivals, Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, which would have been an exciting occasion for all concerned.
Last Sunday, Ronaldo played with Portugal against France in the Nations League however, the game produced no goals for either side. In his time playing for Portugal, Ronaldo has scored 101 goals for his home team and will be a huge absence from the game against Sweden on the 28th of October. Portugal currently has the number one spot in the league and do not want to relinquish the lead by losing their next match.
Aside from Ronaldo, Neymar from Brazil, Kylian from Paris St Germain and Zlatan Ibrahimovic from AC Milan have also tested positive to the virus recently.
