The Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), a French gaming regulator, has estimated that 31% of French football fans will bet at Euro 2020.
The regulator compiled a study based on historical and current statistics to show how popular sports betting could be during this summer's tournament.
According to the ANJ, strong support for sports betting was proven in the first quarter of 2021, when stakes increased by 79 percent and sports bettors increased by 29 percent.
There were 2.5 million active sports betting accounts during this time, with most bettors being men under the age of 35. The most popular sport was football, which cost an average of €45 ($53) a month.
According to the findings, approximately 48% of French people plan to watch the Euros, with 49% betting “amiably with their loved ones” and 31% betting more seriously. The ANJ, on the other hand, insists that operators exercise "moderate and controlled gambling," and that players set limitations and do not exaggerate their abilities.
